MUDRA85

An Exhibition by Erik Gonzalez
November 7 – January 29

A mudra is a spiritual gesture and an energetic seal of authenticity employed in the iconography and spiritual practice of Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism. While some mudras involve the entire body, most are performed with the hands and fingers. In MUDRA 85, Erik Gonzalez reflects on the spirituality of painting, and the hand movements of graffiti artists.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Erik Gonzalez has been an active aerosol artist for over fifteen years. His work has been profiled on national and global media outlets that include newspapers, magazines, web media, television and radio interviews. As a professional graffiti artist, Erik has been successful in utilizing his work for alternative marketing that appeals to younger generations, delivering positive and meaningful messages to young people around art and education, youth empowerment, risk behavior prevention, and more. In January 2012, Erik founded the Urbanists, Urban Art Collective, an art group with a focus to serve the community through art and public engagement.

In the perfect complement to Kitsap Regional Library’s One Book, One Community initiative centered on the book Eviction, come experience Home, by local artist Jamie DeTavis, as she explores the idea of home within the macro and microcosms we navigate to live full and meaningful lives.
